Mzuzu University Library and Learning Resources Centre has described the library as the backbone of any university, noting its central role in collecting, organizing, and disseminating knowledge.

The University Librarian, Dr Aubrey Chaputula, made the remarks on Saturday evening in Mzuzu during an end-of-year and team-building function organized by the department.

Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the Dean of the Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and Management, Dr Lameck Zetu Khonje, emphasized that the library department is a key pillar in the university’s strategic plan to unlock its full potential. He added that Mzuzu University aspires to attain University 5.0 status by 2030, with the library making a significant contribution through the promotion of innovation and academic excellence.

The event also featured staff recognition awards, where Francis Munthali was named Library Employee and Assistant of the Year, while Mwayi Mchunchu was honoured as Computer Technician of the Year
